On Tuesday, July 28th, our brand manager, Ashley, was invited to come in to CP24 to chat with Ann Rohmer during animal house calls. During our planning with producer Amanda, it was decided that we would chat about the Canadian Horse (because frankly, who knew there was a Canadian Horse?!) and the historic 350th anniversary of the breed; and the second thing we were asked to do was to try to create a 3D printed sculpture of Ann's late Jack Russel, Lucy, who passed away April 2nd, 2008 at 12:45.

This proved to be an endeavour in and of itself because we had exactly one scanned polaroid in black and white to work with, and it wasn't the best quality photo. We decided that simply would not do so upon the advice of our media relations expert, Karen, we set off to talk to artist Paul Boddum who had in the past, painted a portrait of the late Lucy, in the hopes that he still had a photo of two kicking around on his computer. We knew it was a long shot, and we were already working within very tight deadlines, but we sent the request and then waited... from Friday to Monday... and then were completely shocked to learn that Paul had several good, usable photos that he sent us first thing Monday morning. We're so grateful to him for that. Our design team had the tools in place now to really fine tune and personalize this cute, little Jack Russel terrier model for the lovely Ms. Rohmer. We saw some digital images of the model and since we were unable to find a contact that knew Lucy when she was alive, we did our own in-house feedback to make the model as perfect as we could make it.

Tuesday, July 28th quickly arrived and Ashley made her way downtown with a box of sample models and her secret Lucy gem tucked away in more bubble wrap than should be possible (but you can never be too careful). Upon arriving at 299 Queen Street West, she was aquainted with Kallie and Brad from the OSPCA, Dr. Lulu Vihos from the Downtown Animal Hospital, Tayna and Miranda from Freedom Drivers and Save My Tail, producer Amanda Risser and of course, Ann Rohmer herself.

The model for Ann was meant to be a surprise, so we kept it in bubble wrap and hid it behind a cushion so it was ready for the big reveal. Ashley had to be careful not to lean into the cushion too hard and break it during filming of earlier segments. In case you missed it or just want to watch it again, the segment is below. Lights, camera, action!
